Chemicals in Products

Salon chemicals contain extremely hazardous ingredients, most of these chemical substances are harmful to the environment because of their concentration and slow breakdown. These chemicals are extremely toxic to our ecosystem and the impact is increased when they are mixed together. We don’t know exactly what damage this cocktail of chemicals is creating. Certain substances are slow to degrade or don’t degrade at all, the problem with this is our water treatment plants have systems that keep the water in holding tanks to allow debris to fall to the bottom, the water is then treated and deemed clean, this water is then used to water food crops, which will then be consumed. This water is also let out to sea, it’s important to know that certain substances that haven’t broken down could still be in the water entering our food and also into the food chain via the ocean. Some substances found in certain dyes have a direct toxic effect to the aquatic environment, such as PPD and toluene i.e. the anti dandruff agent zinc pyrithione is extremely toxic: a dilution of 1 part to 2 million parts of water is enough to kill a fish.
